Job Duties and Responsibilities:


Il Ponte is located in one of Toronto’s fastest growing, and most diverse neighbourhoods with a simple mission; to be a dependable local establishment that serves and grows with the families, businesses and residents of Riverside and Toronto proper. Our belief is that great service and delicious food is paramount to the dining experience. Our fresh thinking on Italian cuisine is present in our seasonal menu dishes as well as in our many fresh made daily specials. To continue adding to our team, we are looking for an experienced Italian cuisine chef to manage our restaurant’s kitchen. By using local ingredients and importing authentic Italian products, this position will lead our kitchen to realize our unique brand of ‘La Cucina Italiana’. The detailed responsibilities of the position include:

  • Plan and direct food preparation and cooking activities of the restaurant;

  • Create dishes and menus based off of traditional dishes from Calabria, Sicilia, and other regional areas of Italy, including desserts;

  • Create seasonal menus based off of local supplies;

  • Estimate food requirements, and food and labour costs;

  • Recruit, hire and train staff, supervising 4-6 staff;

  • Supervise activities of sous-chefs, specialist chefs, chefs and cooks;

  • Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs;

  • Consult with clients regarding weddings, banquets and specialty functions;

  • Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions.


·         College or vocational school diploma in a Culinary field;

·         Minimum 5 years of experience managing a kitchen as a chef;

·         Knowledge of food costs, ordering, inventory management, working schedules, and menu creation;

·         In-depth knowledge of traditional dishes from various regions of Italy, especially from Calabria and Sicilia, including cooking Mediterranean seafoods and fish;

·         Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment;

·         Catering experience for parties over 100; and

·         Capable of working weekends and holidays.
