About Marché Sanwigché: Marché Sanwigché is a dynamic and innovative bodega, deli and grocery store dedicated to providing high-quality farm to table food and exceptional customer service. With 800 square feet, 12 dine-in seats, and a prime location in the vibrant Saint-Henri neighborhood, we are committed to delivering fresh, delicious food while maintaining a strong presence in the community. As we prepare for a May 2024 opening, we are seeking a full-time, client-facing Prep Cook to join our team and be part of serving mouthwatering sandwiches to the community while ensuring they keep coming back for more.

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Client Facing Prep Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about food, have a keen attention to detail, and thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment. As a key member of our culinary team, you will play a vital role in preparing ingredients, assembling sandwiches, and ensuring that each dish meets our high standards of taste, quality, and presentation. You will work closely with the director of Marché Sanwigché and the board, including two key stakeholders, to ensure the success and growth of the business.

Initial Evaluation Period: The initial evaluation period for the first 90 calendar days is intended to give new employees the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to achieve a satisfactory level of performance and to determine whether the new position meets their expectations. The Company uses this period to evaluate employee capabilities, work habits and overall performance.

Key Responsibilities:

1.      Shift work: Front of house and back of house shift work, including prep (cutting, cooking, storing, labeling, etc.). Assembling food and serving clients for in house and takeaway –open, close, dishes and cleaning.

NOTE: Exact shift work, hours and duties will evolve as the business grows and new staff is hired, following both manager and director/board leadership and recommendation. Nevertheless, this is a full-time on-site position.

2.      Inventory Management: Oversee inventory control, ensuring optimal levels, freshness, and efficient use of resources.

  1. Quality Control: Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, and overall customer experience.
  2. Food Preparation and Service: Ensure efficient food preparation and service operations, maintaining consistency and quality. Sanwigché will strongly focus on speed and volume, without compromising quality of food and service. Strong contribution to optimizing recipes, prep, delivery, storage, and service flow is expected.
  3. Collaboration: Work closely with team members to coordinates tasks and streamline workflow, contributing to a positive and efficient kitchen atmosphere.
  4. Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance of the store, including equipment and facilities. Always uphold the highest standards of organization and cleanliness.
  5. Customer Service: Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner, taking orders and accommodating special request as needed to provide exceptional service.
  6. Additional Tasks: Perform other tasks as necessary for the success of the business, by initiative or as directed by the board.
  7. Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and all applicable local and Provincial regulations.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Previous restaurant/café experience, ideally in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
  • Energetic self-starter with a positive attitude.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Food handler's certification and other relevant certifications preferred, but not required.
  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms most hours of the working day. The employee must lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
